Reg 181: The A-Z list of the cars coming your way next year - and beyond

ALFA ROMEO

More variants of their Stelvio SUV to come.

AUDI

The A8 has gone on sale. Prices start from €99,950 OTR. The A7 4dr Coupe gets here in February. RS3 saloon now produces 400hp. From €69,550 OTR. RS4 Avant here in January.

The e-tron electric car has a range of more than 500kms and is due next year. The new Q8 will expand their Q model range in 2018.

BMW

The new X3 has just arrived. From launch, there are two diesels: an xDrive20d 4cyl and an xDrive30d straight-six. The range-topping M40i petrol (3-litre 6cyl, 360hp, 0-100kmh in 4.8 seconds) is a first M Performance vehicle in the X3 line-up. Prices start from €55,856 - for the time being.

The 6 Series GT takes over from the 5-series Gran Turismo. Here this month. Three engines with xDrive (all-wheel drive) on two of the three variants. It's 115kg lighter, longer and there is more head and boot room. Prices - for a limited period - are from €66,494.

Really looking forward to the X2 SUV. It looks the business. It's 2cms shorter and 7cms lower than the X1 but has the same wheelbase. There is a 470-litre boot. OTR prices start from €50,320 (xDrive20d SE). Expect it to arrive here during the first quarter of 181.

Estimated arrivals dates: M5 November; 6 GT November; X2 January; X4 first quarter 2018; Z4 production model late 2018; 8-series late 2018/early 2019.

And watch out for the X7, BMW's "Scandinavian" take on a large SUV.

CITROEN

The new Cactus will replace the current C4 and C4 Cactus in the second half of 2018. Likely to have a 1.2-litre PureTech 110 5spd manual, an auto 6spd, 130bhp 6spd manual and 100bhp 1.6-litre diesel 5spd. The next major arrival - by the end of 2018 - will be the C5 Aircross crossover (already on sale in China). Hybrid likely early 2020.

DACIA

The new Duster is being pencilled in for late next year. They say it is "100pc new". There will be petrol and diesel engines.

DS

Their new DS7 Crossback - to rival the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 - is not due here until 2019.

FIAT

They will have a facelifted 500X and 500L arriving in the spring/early summer. The Tipo gets a new sporty look with the S Design. From €22,995.

JEEP

The Compass SUV arrives in January (prices to be announced next month) to compete with the Volkswagen Tiguan, Nissan Qashqai, Ford Kuga etc. There will be 1.4 MultiAir 140hp and 170hp petrols as well as 1.6 Multijet 120hp diesel, and 140hp and 170hp 2-litre versions.

There will be 2WD and 4WD variants as well as manual and auto transmissions.

The new Wrangler and Cherokee are due late next year.

FORD

The new EcoSport arrives in late January. They are promising a big improvement on the previous version. Now made in Europe (not India) it will have AWD as an option for the first time. It will be powered by the new 1.5 litre EcoBlue 125PS diesel and 1-litre EcoBoost petrol (three variants up to 140PS). The revised Mustang, meanwhile, will be here by the middle of the year. Both the 5-litre V8 and 290 PS 2.3-litre EcoBoost have the option of a new 10spd automatic transmission.

There is a new MagneRide damping system that responds to changing road conditions and two new drive modes - Drag Strip Mode and My Mode.

Drag Strip, they say, lets it zip from zero to 97khm in under four seconds.

There will be more driver assistance technologies, so it should score better with Euro NCAP than when tested in 2015.

There will be a revised Ka+ in April. And an all-new Focus is due by August. Expect it to be a major focus (no pun) at Geneva in March.

A revised Transit Custom (1 tonne) van will be here by March and revised Transit Courier and Connect models are due by May.

HONDA

The Civic range gets two new additions. The revised 1.6 i-DTEC diesel arrives in January and the Civic 4dr saloon is scheduled for September.

The Civic Type R also goes on sale in January. And we'll see the new 1.5 litre VTEC Turbo CR-V in September. Its hybrid stablemate with its two motor i-MMD (intelligent multi-mode drive) system arrives in October.

HYUNDAI

Their new model line-up includes the Kona crossover and i30 Tourer (estate), which are already here. The i30 Fastback is due on December 1 while the i30N performance car is a January market debutant. And the IONIQ plug-in hybrid will be in showrooms by mid-December.

The Kona has a 1-litre petrol and starts from €20,995. The 1.6 petrol costs from €29,995.

The i30 Tourer has a 1-litre petrol (from €23,995) and a 1.6-litre diesel (from €25,995).

The i30 Fastback has a 1-litre petrol (€24,995). The prices for both the i30N and IONIQ plug-in are yet to be announced.

JAGUAR/LAND ROVER

Jaguar: See my First Drive review of the new E-PACE compact SUV on Page 3 of the Supplement. It's due in early December. There's a Limited Edition price of €36,000 for the 2-litre FWD 150PS manual.

Diesel power comes from the 2-litre 4cyl engine (150PS, 180PS and 240PS). And petrol from the 2-litre 4cyl Ingenium turbos (249PS or 300PS).

The electric I-PACE SUV will arrive mid summer.

And the F-TYPE sports car with its 4cyl 300PS petrol engine means prices have come way down - now from €65,040 for the Coupe auto.

Land Rover: The Range Rover Sport P400e is its first plug-in hybrid and combines a 300hp 2-litre petrol with a 116hp electric motor. They claim an electric-only range of 51km.

KIA

After a busy year, 2018 looks quiet. The cee'd will be shown at Geneva and will go on sale here in July. The plug-in Niro hybrid is here now for January sales.

Also coming are facelifts for the Sorento (February/March) and Sportage, which will be for 182-reg.

And the new flagship Stinger officially goes on sale in early Spring.

LEXUS

Their CT and NX models are getting interior and exterior design changes. The Lexus Safety System is now standard. The new LS, flagship saloon (from around €115,000 and a huge price drop on the old one) is due for January sales. It has the new 3.5-litre multi-stage hybrid powertrain with 10spd automatic transmission - the same as in the gorgeous LC sports car/GT.

MAZDA

They're bringing in a minor facelifted CX-3 and the Mazda6 gets a bit of an overhaul, but no timeline of arrival as yet. The little MX-5 gets a tiny facelift too.

MERCEDES

Their new X-Class pick-up was unveiled here yesterday. It costs from €39,950 (including VAT and VRT) for the X220 4x2 PURE version.

There are all-wheel drive options too (selectable 4MATIC) with low-range gearing and optional rear axle differential lock. A permanent all-wheel drive model is due next year. There are two versions of the 2.3-litre diesel (163hp single turbo X220d; 190hp biturbo X250d). While 6spd manual transmission is standard, 7spd automatic is an option on X250d 4MATIC models.

There is a payload of more than a tonne and 3.5-tonne towing capacity.

Arriving during February/March for the 181-reg plate period will be the facelifted S-Class Coupé and Cabriolet.

Here for the 182-reg period will be new CLS, A-Class and revised C-Class models. The A-Class arrives for summer with the new CLS (to be unveiled at Los Angeles Show) before autumn. The C-Class range (saloon, estate, etc) gets a major revision. And there will be an A-Class saloon late, late next year.

MINI

The only major arrival they are revealing is the special edition 1499GT. But all eyes will be on the electric Mini in early 2019.

MITSUBISHI

They have the new Eclipse Cross SUV arriving in January. From the get-go there will be a 1.5-litre turbo petrol version (163PS) with 2WD and three trim levels. The manual starts from €27,900.

The rear seats slide 200mm and there is an 8-step recline. The second-level (Intense) has manual and CVT automatic transmissions (€29,900 and €32,400 respectively).

And 'Instyle' models (manual, CVT) start from €34,900 and €37,400 respectively with leather and heated front seats on offer.

Later in 2018 they expect a 2.2-litre 4WD automatic diesel.

NISSAN

Their major model is the new LEAF, which is due in February.

This new, more powerful 40kWh EV has a claimed range of 378km range (say 300km real world).

General pricing has yet to be finalised but they have a special-edition version based on SV Premium grade (which is third highest of four) and it costs from €29,590.

Watch for the clever e-Pedal. You can drive - start, accelerate, slow and stop - with one pedal. There is also an autonomous Propilot Park system.

The new e-NV200 gets here in April with an improved range of up to 280km.

OPEL

The Grandland X crossover is their key model for 181. It will be in dealerships from early next month.

There is a 1.2-litre 130hp petrol a 1.6-litre 120bhp diesel with either 6spd manual or 7spd auto transmissions. Expect two new diesels in the spring and an 8spd auto. The 1.2-litre petrol starts at €27,995 with the 1.6-litre diesel from €28,995.

PEUGEOT

Their new 5008 SUV seven-seater has really only just gone on sale - starting under the €30,000 mark - though there has been a small number around since the autumn. The revised 308 will arrive in early 2018. It is the first to get the PSA group's new BlueHDi 130 S&S diesel engine.

RENAULT

Their newest arrival is the new KOLEOS 5-seater SUV. They have updated the Captur too. They also have the new KANGOO Z.E. 33 van with a claimed range of 270km.

Next March they plan to have the new Alaskan pick-up here. It has a 5-link rear suspension and will be powered by a twin turbo dCi 190 engine. And the Megane RS is looked forward to for early 2018 launch.

SEAT

The new Arona small SUV is their big news. There are three petrols: a 3cyl 1-litre 90PS 5spd, a 115PS version and a 4cyl 150PS 6spd as well as two 1.6-litre diesels (95PS 5spd , 7spd DSGand 115PS 6spd). Prices start from €17,995. There will be a larger seven-seater SUV next year.

SKODA

The KAROQ SUV arrives in December for customer deliveries in January/February. Prices from €27,715. A new 1.5-litre TSI petrol is on board for the first time.

The Octavia also gets a high-tech 1.5-litre TSI engine from January.

The KODIAQ gets two new trims (Sportline and Scout) but the engine line-up stays the same.

And the Fabia gets a facelift for July (182-reg).

SSANGYONG

The new Korando Sports is due some time towards the end of next year. It is expected to be shown at the Paris Motor Show.

The new model Rexton 2-seat and 5-seat models are marked in for the end of January/early February - both powered by a 2.2-litre diesel. Towing capacity of 2,700kg is claimed.

SUBARU

The new XV crossover is now on sale and starts from €33,495. And the revised Impreza has landed. It costs from €25,995 for the 1.6i S CVT automatic up to €29,995 for the 1.6i SE Lineartronic CVT automatic.

SUZUKI

They have just the one model - the Swift Sport - coming over the next 12 months. Powered by a 1.4-litre Boosterjet engine, it will be on sale for June.

TESLA

We won't see the smaller and more affordable Model 3 until 2019 - or beyond.

TOYOTA

The Land Cruiser has been revised and tweaked and has just gone on sale. They're claiming increased levels of spec. New Sports grade for the Corolla and Auris (sat nav now standard). And the RAV4 hybrid price has been cut by €2,000. The Yaris GRMN has a 1.8 litre petrol with 212 bhp. Expected early 2018 with a €40k price.

VOLKSWAGEN

Big news is the arrival of the new T-Roc in January. The mid-size SUV slots under the Tiguan. Good range of petrol and diesel engines, with the new 1-litre and 1.5-litre petrol (115bhp, 150bhp respectively) expected to be most in demand. Of course there are diesels: 1.6-litre and 2-litre. Prices start from €24,750.

The new Polo (January) is bigger all round and a far more capable drive than before. It's just more grown-up. Active Info Display makes its world premiere in the new supermini. Engine line-up for here is mainly petrol with 1-litre engines ranging from 65hp to 95hp. Prices start at €16,795.

The range-topping 200hp GTI is due in the spring.

The Tiguan Allspace (January) is a longer version of the current SUV and has an extra row of seats. Luggage room runs to 700 litres with the third row folded (230-litres with the seats in use). It costs from €34,050 (5-seater) and €34,820 for the seven-seater.

A new version of the large Touareg SUV is due by the summer but not much on price or spec as yet. One to watch out for, though.

The T-Cross will be a smaller SUV than the T-Roc and is expected towards the end of 2018.

VOLVO

Their main focus for 181 is the XC40, their first compact SUV. Cars are scheduled to start arriving in dealers from January. Prices start from €38,900 for the T3 front-wheel-drive. There is also a D4 AWD.

The D3 front-wheel drive engine for the XC60 is also due early in 181 and starts from €47,950.
