2017 Volkswagen Passat launched in India: price, specs and features

Volkswagen  has launched its eighth generation Passat in India. The new generation Passat was first revealed in 2014 globally and has been on sale for two years in the international market. The company has already started the production of 2017 Passat at its Aurangabad facility. The new Passat is based on the Volkswagen’s MQB platform and shares its underpinnings with Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Superb. The new Volkswagen Passat comes with a 2.0 litre TDI engine that produces 177 hp of power and 350Nm of toque. The TDI engine is mated to a 6-speed DSG automatic transmission. In addition, Volkswagen has not launched hybrid version Passat GTE that was showcased at 2016 Auto Expo. The Passat is available in two variants-Comfort line and High line.

2:00 PM: 2017 Volkswagen Passat is available with two variants-Comfortline and Highline. The company is also offering service pack which includes 2+2 years warranty.

1: 50 PM: Volkswagen Passat is available in six colours option-Oryx white, Deep Black Pearl Effect, Black oak brown metallic,  Brit silver metallic, Atlantic blue metallic and Mangan Grey metallic

1:45 PM: The Volkswagen Passat competes with the likes of Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Skoda Superb in its segment.

1:40 PM:  The new Passat has fuel tank capacity of 66 litres and gives a fuel efficiency  17.42 kmpl as per ARAI.The sedan is 70 kgs lighter than its seventh generation Passat.

1:35 PM:  The Volkswagen Passat also gets an electric adjustable front seat and full LED headlamps with LED DRL’s and LED tail lamps. The sedan comes equipped with Dynamic chassis control.

1:30 PM:  2017 Volkswagen Passat is available in two variants-Comfortline and Highline.  It comes with 9 airbags, park assist for hands-free parking, hill assist, auto hold and Hill assist.

1:25 PM: The Volkswagen Passat will get active chassis control allowing it to adjust to bad roads along with a parking camera with 360 degrees field of view.

1:20 PM: The Passat will be offered only with the 2.0-litre TDI diesel powerplant that will make about 175 hp and will be offered with a six-speed gearbox. The Passat GTE which is the plug-in hybrid version of the Passat will not be available for now and VW say they have no plans to bring it for the foreseeable future.

1:12 PM: The Volkswagen Passat Comfortline has been launched at Rs 29.99 lakh and the Highline has been launched at Rs 32.99 lakh.Volkswagen will offer at Rs 29,990 a month along with a service pack including 2+2 years warranty. Which seems like a great deal to those who know it!

1:10 PM: Passat is the first sedan to have been built on the MQB platform.Smart touches in the new Volkswagen Passat include hands-free parking and one-touch boot opening like on the Skoda Superb.

1:02 PM: The Volkswagen Passat in its eighth generation will be shorter by 2mm in overall length but gets a considerable gain in wheel-base which will add to space on the inside of the car. Thanks to the new platform the Passat will also be 70 kgs lighter.The eighth-generation Passat is the last of the three new product launches for India in 2017.

12:44 PM: Volkswagen showcased the electric version of the Passat at the 2016 Auto Expo but the company is not launching the electric version right now and has no concrete timeline as well.

 

12: 36 AM: The stage is all set for the Volkswagen Passat launch. The model was discontinued in India about three years back but is back now.

12: 30 AM: Volkswagen has already started the local assembly of eighth-generation Passat at its Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra. The Passat will come in one engine option with an automatic gearbox.

12: 20 AM: The 2017 Volkswagen Passat will compete with likes of Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord.It is expected that the company might launch plug-in hybrid version of Passat GTE which is available Globally.

12: 10 AM: At the front, 2017 Volkswagen Passat will get triple salt chrome grille, LED headlamps with DRL’s. In addition, it will get Park Assist and Head-Up Display.

12:05 PM: The eighth generation Volkswagen Passat will list of features such as 12.3 inch TFT digital instrument cluster. Also, it will get touchscreen infotainment system that will be compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

12:00 PM:The 2017 Volkswagen Passat which will be available with only one engine: 2.0 litre TDI  engine with a 6 6-speed DSG automatic transmission only. The equipment list and the interiors are likely to remain.It is expected that the next-gen Passat will get same equipment list  similar to that of the Tiguan and the Superb,

11: 55 AM: The company has already started the production of eighth-generation Volkswagen Passat at its Aurangabad facility. Globally, Volkswagen has already revealed new generation Passat in 2014.

11:50 AM: 2017 Volkswagen Passat is expected to be a price a range between Rs 30 lakh to Rs 35 lakh,ex-showroom, Delhi. The sedan will compete with likes of Honda Accord and Skoda Superb.

 11: 45 AM: The 2017 Volkswagen Passat get more space for the rear passengers as it gets longer wheelbase than its predecessor.  It gets 2,791mm  wheelbase and 4,767mm in length and wider than its previous generation model.

11:40 AM: The 2017 Passat will come in two variants-Comfortline and Highline. In terms of safety, the Passat will get 9 airbags as standard in both variants and ABS with EBD

11:30 AM: The Volkswagen Passat will have the standard list of features on the inside, a centrally mounted touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Three zone air conditioning with climate control and a panoramic sunroof.

11:20 AM: The Passat will be front wheel drive and will be powered by the groups 2.0 litre diesel powerplant and will make about 178 hp. It will be available only with a DSG 6-speed gearbox and is also likely to get paddle shifters.

11:10 AM: Volkswagen Passat is based on company’s MQB platform,which also underpins the 2018 Volkswagen Polo. The new Passat will compete with likes of Honda Accord, Skoda Superb and the Toyota Camry

11:10AM: The 2017 Volkswagen Passat is expected to get the same features as in Skoda Superb. The new Passat will get a touchscreen infotainment system, Panoramic sunroof and 3 Zone automatic climate control.

11:05 AM: Dimensionally, 2017 Volkswagen Passat has 80mm longer wheelbase. It measures 2,791mm which states that more space at rear.The new Passat has 4,767mm in length and 1,832mm wider.

11:00 AM: The Passat is also likely to follow the same route. Its equipment list is likely to remain similar to that of the Tiguan and the Superb, and it is most likely to be priced in the range of Rs 28-30 lakh.

10:55 AM: Volkswagen has already started the production of 2017 Passat at its Aurangabad facility. The company discontinued seventh generation Passat in 2014 due to low sales. The current model will be eighth-generation Passat, which was globally unveiled in 2014.

10:50 AM: The new Passat is lighter than its predecessor and it has managed to reduce 80 kg in weight. The new Passat will get company’s 3 slat grill with LED headlamps and LED DRL’s. At the rear, it gets Split headlamps and dual exhaust setup

10:45AM: The new Passat will be powered by a 2.0 litre TDI diesel unit mated to 6-speed DSG automatic transmission.  The company hasn’t confirmed to launch the petrol engine, it is expected to be launch later. Considering that most of the Passat’s competition have hybrid options it would not be a surprise if the GTE is launched sooner as well. Although there is yet to be an official announcement by VW.

10:40 AM: Local assembly of the VW Passat has already started at VWs Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra. It will be based on the VW MQB platform it shares with the Skoda Octavia, Superb, Kodia and the Tiguan. MQB platform (modular transverse matrix) and like the manufacturing facility, it also shares the platform with several of the models mentioned above, including the Superb.

10:35 AM: Inside the cabin, 2017 Volkswagen Passat will get host of features 12.3 inch TFT touchscreen infotainment system on a centre console. The touchscreen infotainment system will be compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

10:30 AM: The new Volkswagen Passat will compete with the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord Hybrid both of which are available in India with a hybrid. The eighth generation Passat is also available with a plug-in Hybrid and it’s called the GTE, although VW has not said anything about the launch.

10:25 AM: On the front, the eighth generation Passat will get new design language such as triple slat chrome grille, LED headlamps with DRL’s and dynamic light Assist feature.

1020 AM: The eighth generation Passat has a longer wheelbase as compared to seventh generation Passat. The new Passat is 2 mm shorter, but it gets 80mm longer wheelbase. It measures 2,791mm wheelbase, 4767mm longer and 1832mm wider. The new Passat also gets an increased boot capacity, which is now up to 586 litres!

10:15 AM: As we told earlier that the 2017 Volkswagen Passat will come in two variants- Comfortline and Highline. The new Passat will get 9 airbags as standard across the variants. In addition, it will get more safety feature such as new Park assist and Head-Up Display.

10:10 AM: The Passat will be powered by a 2.0 litre TDI engine that churns out 177hp of power. The engine will be mated to 6-speed DSG transmission. The company might launch Passat GTE plug-in hybrid version today, that was earlier showcased at 2016 Auto Expo.

10:05 AM: The 2017 Passat made its global debut in 2014 Paris Motor Show and is based on company’s MQB platform. Due to the poor sales in Indian market, the company discontinued seventh generation Passat in 2014. Volkswagen’s MQB platform also underpins Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Superb.
