A very rare Ferrari is heading to the auction house. It’s almost like a rare sighting of a mythical creature. The Unicorn car will be seen at an auction, and then will perhaps disappear again. The car in question is a Ferrari 275 GTB/4. The Italian brand manufactured 280 units of this car. The car that you see here is rarer than the others. It is the prototype Ferrari built for the 1966 Paris Motor Show. It was then sold to an owner in Northbrook, Illinois, where it stayed until 1983.

The 4 in the name stands for four-cam, distinguishing the car from the twin-cam ones. Both versions came with a 3.3-litre V12 engine that produced about 300 hp.

The auction house has estimated a pre-sale value of between $2.5 million to $3.5 million on the car, which goes on stage on 18th May in London.

After 1983, the Ferrari went to Switzerland for some time before going to England, after which it went in the hands of Coy’s auction house in Monaco. The Coy team has the car again, and it will not be a surprise if there is bidding war amongst Ferrari aficionados.

If the car is sold for $3.5 million (approximately Rs 22.57 crore), it will probably not be an eyebrow raiser for those who deal in figures much bigger than this. The most expensive car ever sold was a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO that went for $52 million at a private sale. The record sale price at an auction is held by a 1962 Ferrari GTO that sold at Bonham’s Quail Auction in 2014 for $38.115 million.
